BIKES BACK ON TRACK AT LEICESTER

LEICESTER boss Stewart Dickson has had praise ringing in his ears this week.

Dickson made his first trip of the year to the Beaumont Park track to host practice sessions with riders from all three leagues.

Former Grand Prix stars Troy Batchelor and Chris Harris were at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena on Monday and British Champion Rory Schlein was booked in for a visit on Tuesday.

Watling JCB Lions skipper Kyle Howarth has also taken to the track alongside the Thompson twins, Joe and Dan, who will be racing for both Leicester teams this season with Lion Cubs in the National Development League.

Said Dickson: “The feedback we’ve had from the riders has been excellent and it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

“Before I came down I must say Andy Hill and the team have been awesome and the backroom team here at the club have proved once again how brilliant they are.

“The track has a bit of dirt on it and it’s fairly smooth so that makes it just about right for practice.

“All the riders looked good and it was nice to see our own Leicester boys doing some laps on Monday.

“Kyle enjoyed himself and it was great to catch up with him a week after we announced him as skipper and the Thompson twins are looking in fine form. I’m not afraid of putting them into the Championship side, I believe it’s less of a gamble this year than it would have been last year.

“Ty Proctor came along and did some laps on Monday night too and that was the first time he’s been on a bike since 2019.”

The first action of the season at Leicester will be a National League clash with Eastbourne on Wednesday May 19 and the opening Championship meeting will be against Edinburgh on Saturday May 22.
